An Adventure in the Arts If arts, history and culture are your passion, you’ll absolutely fall in love with the Arts Along 460.

The stage for adventure is already set. Cruise along US 460 and you’ll be captivated by the serenity and mystique of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a fitting backdrop for the adventure that awaits. Find your heartbeat in the natural rhythm of the James River.

Go with the flow…
O. Winston Link Museum The Collection of the O. Winston Link Museum is certainly focused on the Norfolk and Western project. Link captured the last days of steam operation on the N&W Railway in the late 1950s, but within the walls of these galleries, visitors experience much more than just photographs.
Maier Museum of Art Lynchburg An original Edward Hopper is among the masterpieces on display at the Maier located on the campus of Randolph College in Lynchburg’s historic Rivermont district, the Maier Museum features a renowned collection of American art. Most impressive are the works of American Impressionism and early-20th century Realism. Artists include Ben Shahn, Arthur B. Davies, John Sloan, Georgia O'Keeffe and others.
Taubman Museum   At the heart of downtown Roanoke, the new 81,000 square foot Taubman Museum of Art proves an arresting landmark for visitors. As Roanoke's most contemporary structure, it provides an analog for the city's evolution from industrial and manufacturing town to technology-driven city. The building's forms and materials evoke both the drama of the surrounding mountainous landscape and the industrial-era building culture of the great early 20th century railroad boom.
Galleries The area has numerous galleries and museums that house art from the latest modern masters to those from ancient times. Also the area plays host to a large number of arts assocations covering dance, ballet, opera, theatre, symphonies and much more.
If Virginia is for Lovers, then the central and southwestern region along US 460 could well be classified as the home for Art Lover!

This region is soaked in culture, bathed in history and saturated with artistic endeavors. The concentration of cultural opportunities in this relatively small slice of the state is unrivaled. Only here can you:

  • Behold the rich beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains or the James River as a stunning backdrop to a world-class ballet or opera.
  • Fill your afternoons with visits to art museums and wind down with an elegant evening of ballet.
  • Treat the kids to the educational intrigue of a modern learning museum, followed by a night of modern jazz, just to shake things up.
  • Explore the lessons and remembrances of America’s heralded history and heroes, from the Revolutionary War to World War II and beyond.

And there’s so much more, all right here in this short stretch of highway, barely an hour’s drive from end to end. A lifetime of cultural treasures awaits you.
