Virginia Museum of Transportation

Located in Roanoke's historic freight station, the Museum is the state’s official transportation museum. Rail engines of all kinds – diesel, electric and steam – are on broad display, including the 611 steam locomotive, a National Mechanical Engineering landmark, and the A-1218, known as "The Mercedes of Steam." The museum also features antique automobiles, trucks, carriages and model trains.
