History Museum of Western Virginia

Presented by the Historical Society of Western Virginia, the History Museum of is dedicated to chronicling the human history of the region. Its permanent exhibit, "The Roanoke Valley, A Crossroads of History," uses a wide variety of artifacts, furniture, clothing, and decorative arts to chronicle life in the region from prehistoric times through World War II. Among the items in the museum’s collection are Native American cultural materials and a 1781 land grant deed signed by Thomas Jefferson. Also available is The Watts Family library, a vast collection of books, photographs, slides, maps, periodicals, documents and manuscripts. The society recently made its collection of artifacts and archives available online with its Virtual Collections project. Museum hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday 1-5. Library is open by appointment. Admission:
