The Region’s Largest Professional Orchestra
The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1953, is the largest professional orchestra in western Virginia. The orchestra offers a subscription season of 11 concerts, including classics, virtuosi and pops. A number of concerts feature the orchestra and chorus together. Highly acclaimed performers, including Natalie Cole and Aaron Neville, have performed with the symphony orchestra. The Roanoke Symphony also plays an active role in education through its concerts for elementary and middle school students, youth symphony, junior strings training orchestra and youth harp ensemble.
